The Korean Communications Standards Commission (KCSC) has imposed the highest level of sanctions on Mnet's "Produce 101" survival program for manipulating votes. On August 10th, KCSC stated, "Due to the unprecedented level of manipulation on broadcast, we have imposed fines on all seasons of 'Produce 101' which is the highest level of sanctions."
Previously, KCSC had held a general meeting at the broadcast headquarters in Mokdong, Seoul. The final decision was made in the combination of the four 'Produce 101' seasons.
As fans know, Mnet's “Produce 101” series has been accused of manipulating the vote on every episode, as well as arbitrarily manipulating the voice to change who is eliminated and who is not.
KCSC stated, “The main point of this program is to use audience participation to form groups based on audience votes only. To provide support, they have to collect votes via paid text."
"From this system, Mnet not only manipulated the results, but they also deceived the audience, obstructed a fair public perception, and most seriously betrayed the hard work of the audition program participants."
The KCSC will decide on the amount of fines Mnet needs to pay based on the exact content, level, time period and frequency of violations under Article 109 of the Broadcasting Law. (www.onkpop.com)
